I have compiled a list of items that are over priced and I think people would not consider worth having. I find it funny that people actually make money off of things like these. Without wasting time, the here are 6 expensive things you probably wouldn't buy.
6. Nino' Bellissima pizza - $1 000 (R12 200)
Nino Selimaj, the owner of Nino's, seems to have the idea that his pizza is so good, you will be willing to fork out one grand for it. The pizza had a creme fraiche base, four types of caviar, sliced lobster tail, salmon roe and some wasabi. It's also sold for $250 a slice.
5. Apple watch edition - $17 000 (R207 100)
The Apple watch was released this year. It is Apple's response to smartwatches like the Pebble and Galaxy wear. Although this was what Steve Jobs had envisioned before he passed way Apple only released this product this year. This version of the Apple watch has 18 carats of gold. I wouldn't have been too concerned with the price if it were just expensive because apple products are quite pricey. The reason this watch makes this list is the fact that a new Apple watch will probably be announced in 3 months time. So you pay $17 000 for a watch you get to use for half a year before the next one is announced. Smart.
4. Stem cell Burger - $330 000 (R4 million)
Mark Post, the creator of the burger, used 20 000 small strands of meat grown from a cow's muscle cells and took three months to create the burger. Without going into detail of how this burger was made (mostly because I don't understand anything), paying R4 million for a burger that looks like this is just absurd. 3. Charles Hollander chews set - $500 000 ( R6 million)
This is the most expensive chess set in the world. This chess set was entirely hand-made in 14-carat white gold. This set has been made with approximately 9900 black and white diamonds. This is ridiculous if you consider that you could buy a chess set for R79 at your local CnA and play chess the same way you would here. I guess when you buy a chess set like this, you buy it for its aesthetics.
2. Manhattan parking spot - $1 million (R12 million)
If you are willing to pay $1 million in Manhattan your parking problems will be over. Except if the place you want to go to is far away from your parking spot.
And drum roll please...
1.No 5, 1948 - painting by Jackson Pollock- $144 million (R1,71 billion)
"I wouldn't even buy that for R5." says my mom after I asked her to guess how much this painting is worth. I am a huge fan of art and I am quite familiar with abstract art. But this is not something I would want hanging on my wall. Jackson Pollock's painting is worth a staggering $144 million. At the time it was sold (November 2006), it became the second most expensive painting in the world.
Thanks for reading. Please don't forget to throw me a thumb up and tell me what you think. If there's anything you know that is also ridiculously priced, comment below.
